May Day 2018
Across the world, people celebrate International Workers' Day on May 1. It's a day to stand in solidarity with immigrants and workers; to honor and continue resistance; and to celebrate OUR power, history, and future. Jóvenes Activos (the SOMOS youth group) organized and led the way this year, taking a stand against gentrification and rent spikes affecting hardworking families in our community.
Our group met at SOMOS headquarters at 3pm, and then walked to Roosevelt Park where we joined the hundreds of other organizations and people participating in the day's festivities. At 4pm, the Aztec dancers showed up to lead us in solidarity as we walked to San Jose City Hall where the Aztec dancers put on a performance, and afterwards we got to hear from different community members.
