The State of Silicon Valley Non-Profits & Philanthropy
Alexa Cortes Culwell and Heather McLeod Grant recently released a report titled “The Giving Code: The State of Silicon Valley Nonprofits and Philanthropy”. Funded by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the report illustrates the ecosystems between nonprofits and philanthropic giving in Silicon Valley.
According to The Giving Code, corporations and foundations are giving at record rates, yet funding to community-based organizations has plummeted in the last decade. The report attributes this disconnect to gaps in knowledge, social network, experience, mindset, and empathy.
We are sharing this information with you in hopes that:
- We can all begin to utilize this new data to draw greater awareness and action to address the staggering disparities in our region.
- Meaningful conversations begin with one another (nonprofits, philanthropists, public & private sectors, and community residents) to figure out how to lift all boats up in this Valley.
- We look at the bright spots (highlighted in the report) and use them to forge a path forward.
Insights into Somos Mayfair’s role in the Valley are highlighted on Page 24.
Finally, we thank our current base of supporters for taking the time to get to know us, to better understand our work, and the value we bring to children and families living right here in Silicon Valley.
