Press Conference Calling for ARUSD Board Accountability Draws Notable Crowd
OUR COMMUNITY SHOWED UP TODAY! A press conference was held at the Alum Rock District Office, calling out #TheAlumRock3 and demanding transparency, accountability, and an end to bullying tactics.
Speakers included: SJ Mayor Sam Liccardo, Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco, City of San Jose, ARUSD Board Members Martinez and Quintero, community members Jacky, Martha, Alma, Kimberly and SOMOS ED Camille. Multiple media organizations showed up, and dozens of community partners were in attendance, widely representing the business, non-profit, labor, teaching, and political sectors.
Later that evening, over 400 people organized and showed up to rally and speak out against the "Alum Rock 3." (The meeting did not end up taking place, because the board members who called for the special meeting chose not to attend.)
The Mayfair community, and especially EMPUJE (SOMOS' organizing group made up of parents who follow district events and advocate for our students) have been meeting with this board for months. We're thankful for the growing support and momentum!
